I had to create a powerpoint presentation on google slides and share my results with a small group of my classmates. Lately, we have been learning about the Age of Exploration. Today, I will be sharing what I learned from my research and my reflection of this topic.<br /><br />New Knowledge<br />After this assignment, I have acquired some new knowledge on Ferdinand Magellan. He was a Portuguese explorer who was born in Sabrosa in 1480. Ferdinand sailed for both Spain and Portugal during his navigation career. Magellan was the first to circumnavigate the world in 1519, which was funded by Charles V of Spain. Ferdinand Magellan also discovered the strait that connected the Atlantic to the Pacific. (AKA the "Strait of Magellan") He also acquired new knowledge of land and sciences. He died in the Mactan Battle in 1521.<br /><br />Reflection<br />I really enjoyed giving and watching these presentations. I think that in the future I will need to be comfortable presenting in front of an audience, and this project helped me asses my presentation skills. I decided to share my newly refreshed knowledge. </div><br /><div style="text-align: justify;">Summary of Knowledge:</div>(Measuring Matter)<br /><br />Mass, Volume and Density are all physical properties of matter that are used to measure matter. Matter is anything that has mass, and volume. We measure matter to identify unknown substances, compare substances, and standardize those measurements. To find the mass of an object, measure the object on a digital scale, or a triple beam balance. This method is successful because on milliliter is equivalent to 1 cubic centimeter. To find the volume of an object, multiply it's dimensions, (length x width x height) or displace that object in water. Density is the measure of how tightly packed the atoms are inside of it. To find the density of an object, divide mass/volume.<br /><br />Summary of Knowledge:<br />(States of Matter)<br />Matter is anything that has mass and volume. Matter is made up of atoms. Atoms can chemically combine with other atoms and form a new molecule, or substance. A substance made up of only one type of atom is called an element. The periodic table of elements lists all the known elements that chemically combine with other types of elements to form everything else! Solids, liquids, and gases are all made up of atoms. Liquids have a fixed volume, but not a fixed shape. The atoms inside of a liquid vibrate and slide past one another. If you increase the temperature of a liquid, and reach it's boiling point, it will become a gas. But no matter how many times that substance changes states, the chemical composition stays the same. Water is made up of H20. If you boil liquid water, it becomes steam. But that steam is still made up of H2O. Gases don't have a fixed volume, or a fixed shape. The atoms inside of a gas are very spread apart, and they move around unexpectedly. If you freeze liquid water, it becomes solid ice. Ice has a fixed volume, and a fixed shape. Atoms inside of a solid are packed tightly together and vibrate in place. Other than solids, liquids, and gases there are a couple of other states of matter. Plasma is an electrically charged gas. Colloids are mixtures that contain two separate phases of matter. Bose-Einstein condensate is a state that can only be created in a lab because the temperature is close to absolute zero. I was talking to my peers this morning, asking them, "Which one is harder? Surface Area? Or Volume?" Four of seven students think that Surface Area is harder. This is why I am going to explain how to calculate Surface Area and Volume today.<br /><br />Here is an example of a Three-Dimensional prism.<br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" src="http://moodle.tbaisd.org/file.php/871/3D_Shapes/Images/rectangular_prism.gif" /></div>To find the Surface Area of this rectangular prism we first have to multiply the dimensions to find the area of each face. To find the Area of the top and bottom faces, we would multiply 4x3x2= 24. To find the area of one of the sets of faces, we would multiply 4x5x2= 40. To find the other set of faces, we would multiply 3x5x2= 30.
